Word Adelaide

Music may form the soundtrack to our lives, but words paint the pictures. They are constantly evolving and mutating and with the advent of social media, we use words more than ever before. If you love a laugh then In their Own Words at the Entertainment Centre is for you! Hear Matt Lucas (Little Britain), Kitty Flanagan (The Project), Professor Roly Sussex (ABC 891) and host Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Icehouse) explore the world of comedy in a way you’d never expect. Magicians hold their cards close to their chests, but for one night only you get the chance to witness these extraordinary minds conjure up some truly unique comedy magic of their own. This isn’t scripted, it’s an off-the-cuff insight into how comedy works that will never happen again. It’s not a stand-up show – it’s a conversation with some of the funniest people on the planet showing us how it’s done. We’ve all been moved by the power of a great song, so you won’t want to miss Words Without Music. Be part of a ‘backstage’ conversation between great songwriters whose works have won Grammys, Brits, ARIAs and sold millions of records. If you love poetry, short stories, the raw energy of soapbox and the tradition of yarn spinning, competitive scrabble, indigenous dreaming and language, then Word Adelaide is the place to be. The program also includes events in association with SALA and the biggest line up of hip hop ever to be assembled in Australia. Co-promoted by PJ Murton, the man who guided the Hilltop Hoods to international stardom, the Word Adelaide Freestyle MC Competition is the largest to ever be held in the southern hemisphere. From 15-18 August this year join us on the adventure that is Word Adelaide. You can watch and listen or jump up and take part – it’s up to you! You will definitely be entertained and inspired. Be among the first to share your passion. Together we make history so check out the program for both ticketed and free events. The experience will change your life. Word Adelaide is proudly owned and managed by Events South Australia, a division of the South Australian Tourism Commission.
