The Hospital Shop

An unlikely name for a café, the ‘Hospital shop’ has been transformed into a charming home-style café/deli. You can just as easily drop in for a great (organic fairtrade) espresso, frappe, or milkshake as you can for supplies of fresh local organic produce. This café/restaurant/food store is open for breakfast and lunch seven days. A regularly changing menu makes the most of seasonal availability. DOGS AND KIDS VERY WELCOME. THE PHILOSOPHY A powerful and positive concept underpins The Hospital Shop, community & environment- today, tomorrow and forever. In line with this philosophy you'll find that all of the packaging at The Hospital Café is recyclable, biodegradable or compostable. One of the reasons why the coffee is so good at The Hospital Café is because it's all organic, fair trade and roasted locally. THE FOOD A daily changing menu that makes the most of seasonal and local produce promises to inspire & expand your palate with its policy of ‘no extras'- flavours, chemicals, preservatives and other unnecessary additives. Home-style, healthy and hearty meals are executed with precision and passion, and of course local seasonal produce. LOTS of gluten free options as well as vegos... THE VIBE Like its family owners the vibe of family and familiarity continues to shine in the Café. Determined for everyone to feel like they can consider The Hospital Shop a second home, you'll find everyone is welcome, including your four legged friends. You'll find an eclectic mixed crowd that makes you just want to be a part of it. Reflecting its mixed crowd, the décor & design of The Hospital Shop is mismatched country, meets urban artsy Melbourne. Minimalist in its adornment of tables, shimmering silver cutlery takes centre stage in the table setting. Making the most of its seasonal climate café goers can enjoy a mainly alfresco experience, enjoying the Bradman Oval & Park and leafy surrounds. THE HISTORY Originally established in 1948 The Hospital Shop is still standing, and proud of it! Now refurbished & renovated with passion this café is raring to go. The extensive history & changes to the building can be found on the walls of the café. THE STORE In addition to serving delicious home style meals The Hospital Shop also has a great range of local home made jams and other produce. Browse the shelves whilst you wait for your meals, or come in for a chat and stock up on your gourmet supplies.
