Unfortunately, if one of the bones of the spine gets stuck or loses its normal motion, it creates tension on the tissues around the spine (which is called a subluxation). This then causes the nerves at that section of the spine to ‘short-circuit’, causing abnormal signals to go up to the brain. This ican cause changes in concentration, mood, sleep, balance, and other brain functions. At the same spinal level, there are other branches of nerve fibres that travel to the part of the nervous system that controls all of your organs. This can impact on the function of your immune system, digestive system, breathing, reproductive system, and all other organ systems. Finally, the nerves that supply the small muscles of the spine (which control the movement of the spine) can also be interfered with. The reason that this is so critical is because if your nervous system can’t control these muscles, it can’t control the bones of your spine and they are likely to get more jammed, which will cause more interference to the nerves. This is what we call a ‘stuck loop’ or a chronic subluxation of the spine. Eventually your body has to compensate for this by tightening the large postural muscles of the body. This causes the surrounding posture of the spine to change, and can cause problems in other parts of the spine and body.
